What is it? 

Vinyasa as a style of yoga practice is a flowing, smooth transition between poses linked with the breath.

What does it mean? 

nyasa means “to place”. Vi means “in a special way”. The word implies the conscious placing of poses and breath to create a flowing series.

Who founded it? 

The style of Vinyasa stems from the practice of Ashtanga Yoga, a moving meditation.

How did it evolve?

The Vinyasa approach to yoga practice is a method which creates a step-by-step practice to addressing a students needs through a rhythmic sequence of breath and movement, and has evolved through the systemised approach of Ashtanga Yoga of Pattabhi Jois. A Vinyasa is also sequence in itself used to link poses and create heat within the body and emphasise the breath and body connection.

What is a class like?

A Vinyasa class is a dynamic moving meditation.
