This style of yoga focuses on extended poses to deepen the benefits of each pose and is a relaxing and slow practice aiming to open the body and relieve stress.”

What does it mean? 

There is no Sanskrit derivation for the name of this style of yoga.

Who founded it? 

Judith Hanson Lasater helped to popularise this style of yoga following her teachings from B.K.S Iyengar and her book ‘Relax and Renew: Restful Yoga for Stressful Times’.

How did it evolve?

“Restorative yoga evolved from the seminal work of B.K.S. Iyengar who used different props and techniques to work with people who suffered from illness or chronic conditions that prevented a more active approach to āsana practice.”

What is a class like?

In a restorative yoga class you can expect to hold poses longer than expected and utilise props such as bolsters, blocks and straps to assist you to maximise each pose.
