Krishnamacharya

Widely known as the father of yoga, Krishnamachrya was an Indian yoga teacher, ayurvedic healer and scholar and is widely credited with the revival of hatha yoga. He is known as one of the most influential teachers of the 20th century through his teaching of the system of ‘vinyasa’ – the connection of movement and breath. Underlying all of Krishnamacharya’s teachings was the principle “Teach what is appropriate for an individual”.

Krischnamacharya’s influence is widely felt in the spread of yoga through those who were his students, including Indra Devi, Sri K Pattahbi Jois, B.K.S Iyengar, and T.V.K Desikachar, hence the credit given as the ‘father of yoga’.

N.B This is just a short extract of the history of Krishnamacharya and by no means an exhaustive biography.
